DOROTHY P. CLORE SCHOLARSHIP

The Dorothy P. Clore Scholarship is awarded annually by the Southern Police Institute Association Alumni Auxiliary (SPIAAA) to one or more officers that plan to attend SPI in the upcoming year.  This scholarship assists the chosen officers with text book and living expenses.  The Auxiliary meets each year during the annual conference to review applicants for this scholarship, choose one or more of those officers, and determine the amount of money to be awarded.  The Auxiliary raises money for this scholarship through fund raising efforts at each conference.

Mrs. Dorothy P. Clore began working at the University of Louisville in 1928 and in 1951, the year that the Southern Police Institute Association (SPIA) was founded, she was appointed to work as the secretary and office manager by Mr. Candless, an SPIAA founder.  Mrs. Clore was known for her tremendous work effort and attention to detail in her daily work.  Those familiar with Mrs. Clore state that she knew the name of each officer who attended SPI as well as the year of each officer’s graduating class.  Shortly after Mrs. Clore retired as secretary of SPIA in 1968, the Dorothy Clore Scholarship was established. You can read more about this beloved SPI individual in the January 2021 Newsletter, The New SPIAA Quarterly.
